Advair Diskus (Fluticasone Propionate and Salmeterol) is a drug used to control and prevent breathing problems such as wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma or lung diseases. It is made up of two medications: fluticasone, a corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation and salmeterol, a long-acting beta agonist that opens up said airways making the breathing process comfortable and easy. The combination of these two drugs do not increase the risk of serious asthma related breathing problems as using them individually could. Asthma patients may be reccomended this drug as an option when their symptoms are not well controlled with one asthma-control drug or if their symptoms require combination treatments. It's vital to learn how to use this medication properly and to use it regularly to gain its full effects. It's not fast acting and should not be used in the case of a sudden asthma attack.

Always follow your doctors instructions while taking Advair Diskus.

  • Use device in a level and flat position
  • Inhale by mouth as directed, usually twice daily
  • Do not exhale into device
  • Close device after each use
  • Do not take apart any piece of the device
  • Wait 1 minute between use of other inhalers and always use this one last
  • Gargle, rinse, and spit water out of mouth after each use
  • Do not use other long-acting beta agonists with this medication
  • If you are regularly using a quick-relief inhaler you must stop and only use it as needed for asthma attacks
  • Do not stop use of regular oral corticosteroids you may be taking as you may experience withdrawal symptoms
