Altace is also known by the generic name Ramipril and can be prescribed to treat hypertension. Ramipril is classified as a ACE inhibitor and relaxes blood vessels to help blood flow to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Altace is taken once or twice a day orally with or without food. The exact dosage is determined by your doctor based on your condition and response to the treatment. In some cases your doctor can start you out on a low dose and gradually increase the dose to create an optimal dose for your treatment. This can also be done to lower the risk of side effects. This medication should be used regularly for the best effect, and you should continue to take this medication even if you feel well.
