Aricept or the generic form Donepezil can be prescribed to treat dementia in cases relating to alzheimer's disease.  Donepezil blocks enzyme's to restore the natural balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. While Donepezil is not a cure for alzheirmer's disease it can increase the memory capacity and awareness allowing the patient to function better.

Take Aricept orally with or without food once a day. Make sure you do not break apart the tablets, crush or chew them as it will increase the potential of side effects.

It may take several weeks before you are able to feel the full effect of Aricpet. It is important that you take it regularly and do not stop unless instructed by doctor. There could be cases where you have been instructed to start at a low dose and work your way up to a optimal dose. Follow the doctors directions explicitly to ensure a safe and effective treatment.

Some ingredients may have the potential to induce an allergic reaction. Before taking Aricept speak with your doctor about know allergies. Disclose any medications and supplements you are taking to avoid any interactions with Aricept.

feeling unwell (malaise), appetite loss, weight loss, sleep problems (insomnia), muscle cramps, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, shakiness (tremor), itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

Q: How should I store Aricept?

There is not enough medical data to know if the medication can pass into the breast milk of the nursing mother.
