Benicar can be prescribed to treat high blood pressure in cases of hypertension. Benicar, also known by it's generic name Olmesartan is a angiotension receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes the blood vessels to allow smooth blood flow. Olmesartan works by lowering your blood pressure to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
In tablet form Benicar is taken orally once a day with or without food. Regular use of this medication will ensure proper treatment over time. You should continue to take Benicar even if you are feeling well.
If you are taking other medications for lowering your cholesterol allow at least four hours before taking other medications. Speak with your doctor about any other medications you have been prescribed along with Benicar to ensure the right dose schedule.

Benicar can induce dizziness. You should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you are confident that you can safely perform these actions. joint or muscle pain
itching or skin rash
blood in the urine
More serious side effects can also include:
difficulty with breathing or swallowing
muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis).

Q: I am taking a lot of vitamin supplements is this ok with Benicar?
A: Benicar can increase level of potassium. It is a good idea to disclose any and all supplementation or herbal supplements along with current medications to know if Benicar is a good fit for you.
Q: Can I take this while pregnant or bresst feeding?
A: You should not take Benicar while pregnant to prevent harm to the unborn baby. There is not enough medical data to know if Olmesartan can pass into the breast milk of the nursing mother. Speak with your doctor about the risk of taking Benicar while breast feeding.
Q: How should I store Benicar?
A: This medication is stored at room temperature and should be kept away from children and pets. Do not dispose in wastewater, and contact a pharmacist if help is needed in disposing of unwanted or expired medications.
