Benicar can be prescribed to treat high blood pressure in cases of hypertension. Benicar, also known by it's generic name Olmesartan is a angiotension receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes the blood vessels to allow smooth blood flow. Olmesartan works by lowering your blood pressure to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

In tablet form Benicar is taken orally once a day with or without food. Regular use of this medication will ensure proper treatment over time. You should continue to take Benicar even if you are feeling well. 

If you are taking other medications for lowering your cholesterol allow at least four hours before taking other medications. Speak with your doctor about any other medications you have been prescribed along with Benicar to ensure the right dose schedule.

Benicar can induce dizziness. You should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you are confident that you can safely perform these actions.
