Vesicare (Solifenacin) can be prescribed to treat an overactive bladder. Vesicare, also know by it's generic name Solfenacin is classified as an antispasmodic that helps relax the muscles in the bladder eliminating the need to urinate right away.

This medication is taken orally once a day with glass of water. Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet as it can decrease the effectiveness and increase the potential for side effects. 

Dosage strengths can be dependant on the initial diagnosis and response to treatement. Do not increase or change your dose without first consulting your doctor. You should use this medication regularly to ensure the maximum effect.

Make sure you speak with your doctor about prior medical conditions relating to the bladder, any known allergies along with any medication you are currently taking before knowing if Vesicare (Solifenacin) is right for you.

Solifenacin is known to make you sweat less. Avoid too much sun exposure along with any activities that cause you to over exert. Stay hydrated and spend less time in the sun to ensure you do not overheat while using Vesicare.

Drowsiness and blurred vision may occur while taking Vesicare. Alcohol or Cannabis can exasperate the dizzying effects of these substances. You should reduce the use of these substances and consult your doctor on their acceptable limits.

Some side effects can include:

blurred vision, constipation, cough, dry eyes, dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, tiredness, upper abdominal pain, vomiting

More serious side effects can also include:

constipation for more than 3 days, fatigue, high blood pressure, severe abdominal pain, signs of a urinary tract infection, swelling of the feet, ankles, or lower leg

Contact your doctor if side effects become too severe during treatment with Vesicare. If you experience any serious side effects contact your doctor for medical attention. 

Q: Can this be used during pregnancy or breast feeding?

A: There is not enough medical data to know if Solifenacin can pass into the breast milk of a nursing mother. Speak to your doctor to better understand the risk when taking Vesicare while pregnant or breast feeding.

 

Q: I get a really dry mouth while taking Vesicare (Solifenacin), what can I do?

A: Dry mouth can be combated by staying hydrated. Drink lots of water or keep your mouth active by sucking on ice or sugarless candies. Chewing gum can also help to keep your mouth salivating normally. If this side effect becomes too severe, speak with your doctor to help manage the side effects.

 

Q: I feel a little less regular while taking Vesicare, is this normal?

A: Constipation can occur while taking Vesicare (Solifenacin), and can be helped by eating enough dietary fibre, drinking plenty of water and exercising. Contact your doctor if the constipation becomes too severe. Laxatives can also be prescribed in extreme cases of constipation.
